DOCUMENTI E RIPRODUZIONI
February 1, 2022
Between the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022 the Vatican Apostolic Library presents two publications with which to inaugurate a new collection in one of its historic book series: Documenti e riproduzioni. This occasion allows us to highlight for a broad audience an aspect of the Library that is well-known to specialists but generally goes unnoticed: the activity of our publications department. The Library of the popes has, for more than a century, published texts of various kinds, often in specialised collections but always at a high level of scholarly and scientific quality. Pride of place among our publications goes to the catalogues of our manuscript collections, which has enjoyed contributions from some of the most famous palaeographers and codicologists in the history of those august disciplines from Pio Franchi de’ Cavalieri to Cosimo Stornajolo, from Giovanni Mercati to Paul Canart and Salvatore Lilla. In addition to this series, other collections and publications appear: from volumes in the widely acclaimed «Studi e testi», which since 1900 tallies 540 titles, to the most recent edition of our annual agenda, produced this year in partnership with Pietro Ruffo. We would like to draw special attention as well to the grand volumes touching upon the Storia della Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana and those most interesting books concerning Piante maggiori di Roma. Finally, in collaboration with other prestigious publishing houses, the Vatican Library produces spectacular facsimiles of manuscripts from our collections. Over the next few days we will announce here our most recent publications. In the meantime, all titles can be perused on our website: Publications.
